GROUP 1. Type of boat, crossing duration and schedules

1.1. What are the boats like?

Mediterránea Pitiusa’s fleet is comprised of 4 boats that provide a daily service between the ports of Ibiza-Formentera in both directions.

Our fleet is comprised of boats with different capacities (from 153 to 319 passengers) and features: all include one or two covered internal decks and, in certain cases, also include an open-air upper deck, and all have individual passenger seats.

1.2. How long does the journey last?

The 4 boats are divided into 3 lines:

  • Jet line: which covers the route in about 25 minutes.
  • Express line: which does so in about 35 minutes.
  • Low-cost line: with a longer journey time of about 45 minutes.

This does not include the time it takes to dock and undock at port.

1.3. What are your ferry operating hours?

Our operating hours and schedules vary according to the season.

We offer 3 ticket options according to schedule flexibility:

Flexible schedule: You can use any ferry, at any time on your selected day, as long as there are free spaces available when you board11.

Fixed schedule: You can only travel at the selected time and day.

Low-cost schedule: Applied by the company only for specific times a day. Travel is only possible with one of these tickets at the times specified.

We recommend you consult us via our website before making a reservation as schedules vary depending on the time of year and also check back 24 hours before travelling to confirm the definitive schedule, just in case there have been any changes.

[1] Seat availability is not normally an issue, but we do recommend you consult our schedules and leave a time cushion (should you need to catch a plane, or attend a meeting somewhere at a specific time, etc.)

It is always recommended that you turn up sufficiently in advance of boarding (at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time).

2.9. How do I benefit from the special rates offered to residents of Formentera or other Balearic isles?

The reservation system is integrated into the Public Administration’s telematic system, and can, therefore, verify if passengers meet the requirements for a residency discount.

Due to technical reasons beyond the control of the Company, it may not be possible to make discounted reservations online, in which case it will be necessary to attend a ticket office or purchase the discounted tickets on the boat itself. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

If the system rejects your application, you must present your identity document and a current original certificate of residence issued by the relevant municipality (Annex I of Royal Decree 1316/2001).

Regardless of whether verification is successful or not at the time of reservation, you must also present the original certificate of residence upon boarding, without which you will not be able to board the boat.

The following identity documents can be used to verify residence using the telematic system implemented by the Public Administration, apply the corresponding discount and board the boat:

  • For Spanish citizens and citizens of EU member states or those of European Economic Area signatory countries or Switzerland:

A valid ID Card or passport.

Children under the age of 14 without an ID Card or passport may present a Council certificate of residence.

  • For the families of EU member state citizens or States belonging to the European Economic Area:

A valid Spanish Residence card of a family member of a Union citizen.

  • For non-EU Member country nationals who are long-term residents:

A valid foreigner identity card, indicating their long-term residency status

In any event, we recommend you continue to carry a copy of your council issued certificate of residence, in case it is not possible to confirm your residence using the telematic system. ???

2.10. What other ticket discounts are available?

Independent of online purchasing advantages or the discounts indicated in the previous section, large families enjoy legally stipulated discounted rates.

Discounts are also available for children (between the ages of 4 and 12) and also for pensioners (over 60), who can benefit from discounts on the applicable rates.

Babies and infants (0 to 4 years) always travel free.

2.11. How do I make an online group reservation?

Our website contains an exclusive group reservation form. Mediterránea Pitiusa offers discounts for groups of passengers comprised of at least 10 people.

Also, we can also offer special prices for events, weddings, school trips and similar.

GROUP 3: Before travelling

3.1. What must I present to the crew when boarding?

When boarding each passenger must present:

  • Their printed ticket, keeping the receipt until the end of the trip, or boarding card.
  • Documents accrediting the identity of the passenger named on the ticket.

To ensure the verification of the person named on the ticket or boarding card, passengers must present their personal identification document to accredit their identity (ID Card/passport from their country of origin). The document must be the original and in force (if it has expired, it must be accompanied by a photocopy of a valid renewal form).

Children under the age of 14 must identify themselves via ID Card if they have one; if not, they can present a copy of their Spanish Family Book or their local council’s certificate of residence in the case of residency discounts.

Children under the age of 14 must always travel accompanied by an adult; if they are not accompanied by one of their parents or a legal guardian, it is essential that proof of their consent be provided, accompanied by a photocopy of their ID Card and Spanish Family Book, indicating the child’s name and that of their parents.

Remember, we take the child's age into account on the date of travel and not at the time of reservation, and if in doubt we may ask you to provide official documentation accrediting their age.

3.2. I haven't printed out my boarding card, can I board the boat by displaying it on my mobile phone?

Boarding is not possible without an electronic boarding card that has been properly printed out. If you wish, you can print your boarding card at our ticket office for an additional fee of €5 per reservation.

However, if you purchase your ticket on the day of travel you can collect your boarding card from our ticket office free of charge by indicating the reservation number.

3.3. What is the boarding cut-off time?

Passengers must board at least 10 minutes in advance of the departure time, and boarding is closed 5 minutes before the scheduled departure time.

For evening/night departures on the Formentera-Ibiza route in July and August, we recommend boarding at least 20 minutes in advance, to ensure you get a seat.

3.4. Can I take my bike on the boat?

The Company offers a free bicycle and moped (up to 50cc) transport service as long as you arrive 15 minutes in advance of the departure time and there is enough space. They are kept on deck, properly strapped, but their loading, custody and unloading are the responsibility of their owner.

4.2. Can I travel by boat if I am pregnant?

As the journey time is very short, pregnant women can travel as long as they feel OK at the start of the journey and are not more than 36 weeks into their pregnancy.

We do not recommend travelling by boat beyond week 36 and the final decision rests with the boat’s captain. .

You should make this known when providing your contact details at the time of reservation.

4.3. Have the boats been adapted for persons with reduced mobility?

Yes, the Company is extremely concerned about improving the accessibility of its facilities and quarters and reaffirms its commitment to take action geared to improving and adapting services provided to persons with reduced mobility and take all measures within its scope.

The Company can provide wheelchairs, and two of the boats in our fleet have been specially adapted for persons with reduced mobility (although for comfort reasons we recommend you bring your own wheelchair, and any other items necessary for your well-being).

In general, we recommend that travellers with reduced mobility notify us when purchasing their tickets either online or at the ticket office, at least 24 hours in advance, of any special requirements they require, so that both our ground staff and boat crew can ensure your boarding, stay and disembarkation are as comfortable as possible, and that you enjoy the journey under the same conditions as the other passengers.

In this sense, the Company cannot guarantee that there will be seats available for persons with disabilities unless we are notified at least 24 hours in advance.

When purchasing your ticket we will ask you to sign a special assistance request form. That way, both staff trained to accompany you to the boat from the ferry terminal, and the crew that will accompany you during the trip can be provided with a list of all passengers that will be requiring their services, in order to provide the best assistance possible.

It is important that you indicate your disability (visually or hearing impaired, mobility difficulties, etc.) prior to making your reservation, either online or via an agency, and the type of assistance you require.
